It has been informed by the Kerala government to give holidays to five districts in Kerala for Pongal festival. Many districts from Tamil Nadu such as Kanyakumari, Neelgri , Theni, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Dindugul , Tiuppur, Virudu Naga have their borders linked with the several districts if Kerala.
Many people who work in government organizations and private sectors from Tamil Nadu live in the Kerala state, particularly the people who live in the border areas.
“The pongal Festival,” the festival of harvest is celebrated in full swing in Tamil Nadu where as it is not celebrated to that extent in the Kerala State. In Tamil Nadu, during these festival times, mostly all people used to go to their houses for celebration.
As a gesture of recognition, the border districts of Kerala such as, Trivandrum, Palacadu, Pathanamthittai, Vaia Nadu, and Idduki , where abundant number of Tamilians are living have been given a local holiday on the 15th of Junuary. Many people from Tamil Nadu appreciated the action of Kerala Government.
