The National Council for Teachers Education has already drafted a new regulation so as to improve the quality of the above courses by modifying the duration of the courses in to two years programs. At the same time there are some groups academicians who feel that it would turn off aspirants as they would have to spend more money and time to get the qualification. It has been argued if the duration of the course is increased, many bright students may not prefer BEd degree course.
G. Visvanathan, Vice chancellor of TamilNadu Teachers Education University Points out the fact that the quality of teaching will be improved only by this new regulation. One year duration is too less to make a competent and efficient teacher. Accordingly, a new syllabus for the two year BEd and Med courses have been formulated.
The TNTEU has been getting feedback from the 689 BEd training colleges affiliated to it on the new regulation. Finally all this suggestions will be placed before the Syndicate of the University and the State Government for approval for implementation.
